Data note: withdrawal speeds vary meaningfully with account age (older accounts clear faster because KYC is complete) and withdrawal size (larger withdrawals often route through manual review). The figures above are for accounts 90+ days old and typical withdrawal amounts of $250-$2,500. See methodology below for full detail.

Key findings

  • The fast-vs-slow gap is widening. FanDuel and DraftKings clear instant-bank withdrawals in under an hour on average. The slowest operator (BetRivers) averages 4.5 hours for the same method — nearly 10x slower. The gap was 4x a year ago.
  • Instant bank has taken over as the default fast method. PayPal, historically the fastest US channel, has slowed to 2.5-8.5 hours across operators. Instant-bank transfer via GeoComply's partner network has become materially faster.
  • ACH is stable at 1-4 business days. Every operator is within a reasonable range on ACH; this is the mid-tier method for bettors who don't want to link instant bank.
  • Check by mail is no longer worth recommending. Median clear time is 10-15 business days. Every operator that still offers it does so as an option for users without banking access.

Methodology

Testing is conducted by BettingOnline.org staff using real-money accounts opened in states where each operator is licensed. Each test is a genuine withdrawal — not a request that's later cancelled — with funds actually landing in the destination account.

Sample size: 240 withdrawals in Q2 2026, distributed across 30 per operator (8 operators × 30 tests). Split roughly equally across methods: instant bank (10 per operator), ACH (8), PayPal where supported (6), wire (4), check (2).

Withdrawal amounts: $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500 — representative of typical bettor volumes. Larger withdrawals ($10,000+) can trigger additional manual review; we test those separately in our operator-specific reviews.

Account age: all test accounts are 90+ days old at time of testing. New accounts often experience slower first withdrawals due to enhanced KYC review.

Timing: we record the timestamp of withdrawal request submission and the timestamp of funds credited to the destination account. "Cleared" for ACH means funds available for spending in the destination bank; for instant bank, funds visible in the destination bank's app.

Test spread: withdrawals initiated at varying times of day (morning, midday, evening) and days of week (weekday, weekend). Weekend withdrawals typically take 1-2 additional business days to clear for wire and ACH.

Why this matters for bettors

Withdrawal speed is the single most-complained-about issue in every US sportsbook review corpus we've analyzed. It also has the widest quality variation of any operator-comparison dimension. A bettor moving from BetRivers to FanDuel gets 10x faster withdrawals — a meaningful lifestyle difference for anyone actually cashing out regularly.

Practical implications:

  • Test each operator's first withdrawal with a small amount. Some operators throttle new accounts; some don't. The first-withdrawal experience tells you a lot about what your ongoing experience will be.
  • Method matters more than operator sometimes. If instant bank is available, it beats every other method at every operator. If you must use wire, expect 3-12 business days regardless of operator.
  • Weekends slow things down. A Friday-night ACH request often doesn't clear until Tuesday or Wednesday.
