How We Rank Operators

Five-pillar methodology, real-money testing, quarterly re-scoring. Here's exactly how we evaluate every sportsbook, casino and poker site we feature.

The five pillars

Every operator we feature is scored on five dimensions, weighted toward what actually matters for bettors:

1. Bonus value (20%)

Headline bonus value is just the start. We score effective bonus value after rollover requirements, market eligibility constraints, and time-window restrictions. A "$1,500 first bet" promo with strict eligibility scores lower than a "$300 in bonus bets" promo with loose terms.

2. Payout speed (20%)

We test withdrawals through every available method: ACH, debit card, PayPal/Venmo, bank wire, and (where available) instant blockchain. We measure time from request submission to funds-in-bank. Operators that consistently deliver under 24 hours score 5/5; 1-3 days score 4/5; 3-7 days score 3/5.

3. Market depth and pricing (25%)

The most heavily-weighted pillar. We score operators on:

  • Range of sports and markets covered
  • Depth of player props and game props
  • Live betting menu and latency
  • Pricing competitiveness vs. industry consensus
  • Hold rate on standard vs. specialty markets

4. App and product quality (20%)

We test the iOS app, Android app and desktop site for each operator. Scoring criteria:

  • Bet slip behavior and reliability
  • Search and navigation
  • Live streaming coverage and quality
  • Cash Out, Edit Bet and other in-bet features
  • Account management and customer service responsiveness
  • Performance under peak load (Sundays during NFL season)

5. Trust and licensing (15%)

The threshold pillar. An operator that fails this scoring tier is not featured at any rank, regardless of other strengths. We require:

  • License from a recognized regulatory authority in every state of operation
  • Public ownership or transparent private ownership
  • Customer fund segregation
  • Independent third-party game/RNG auditing for casino products
  • Clean record on customer-fund disputes (no large unresolved complaint patterns)

Scoring scale

Each pillar is scored 1.0-5.0. The weighted average produces the final operator score. To make our top-tier list, an operator must score 4.0+ across all five pillars and 4.5+ overall.

Re-scoring

Operator quality changes. New apps roll out. Withdrawal rails change. Bonus offers shift. We re-score every featured operator quarterly. The "last updated" date on every review reflects the most recent re-test.

What we test with

Every operator we recommend has been tested with at least $500 in real-money deposits and at least 100 placed wagers. We use the same accounts that any new customer would use — we do not request preferential treatment from operators.

Conflicts of interest

BettingOnline.org earns affiliate commissions when readers sign up at some operators via our links. Commissions vary across operators, but commission rates do not factor into rankings. We have explicitly declined some larger commission offers from operators that did not pass our trust threshold.

We have no equity, debt or strategic relationship with any operator beyond standard affiliate marketing.
