Best Time to Buy Points in Sports Betting

Buying points in online sports betting can simply be the difference between bringing home a winning bet and a losing bet, and it happens far more often than you could possibly imagine.  The idea behind buying points is that if you find yourself not liking a specific line and are just hoping to move it off of the half point mark, or onto the half point mark, you can “pay” a bit in terms of the betting odds on the game, and have that line moved.  Not all online sports betting sites will offer this though, and this is mainly done in NBA betting and NFL betting.  Today, we are going to give some tips on when the best time to buy points in sports betting is, and also how it will affect those odds.  More often than not the odds won’t be affect a TON, and it can still make the bet worth it to you.

NBA Betting

When it comes to moving the lines on NBA games, typically the best time to do it is to move it from 3 to 3.5 or 4 if at all possible.  Making this move means that you are getting away from a one bucket game if you are getting +3 to a different spot at +4.  This one point here makes a big difference in sports betting.  Another interesting spot to move the line from is around 6 and 7, as many people feel that if a team is up by more than six that this is the point when their opponent will stop fouling.  It’s all about the different sports betting angles out there and how you feel about it, but buying points here can be a good idea.

NFL Betting

In NFL betting there are a few different numbers to consider, but there are two specific ones that definitely stand out above the rest.  This of course starts with the number 3, as a field goal in the NFL is big.  If you can get a team at -3, and move the line to -2.5 then it can make a huge difference.  More often than we realize a game is won by a field goal, and having that team -3 or -3.5 and pushing or losing is tough, so if you move it to -2.5 then you are sitting pretty and probably love your spot when the game comes to an end.  The other number is of course the touchdown, the number 7.  If you have a team who is +6.5, bumping them up to +7 to give yourself that extra bit of room is often the difference between winning and losing.  Why not pay a little bit in terms of the odds to pick up a HUGE half of a point there?  How much the odds will move really depends on the sports betting site that you are using, but on key numbers like three and seven it will typically be more than moving it from 4.5 to 5 or something like that.

Just always keep your eyes peeled for a spot to buy points, because it can absolutely mean the difference between a profitable day and a losing day!
