Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) Strategy

PLO is action-heavy and equity-rich. The biggest beginner leak is overvaluing AA hands. Equities run much closer in PLO than in Hold'em.

Starting hand selection

Best PLO hands are double-suited, connected, close in rank. AAKKds, KQJTds, AKQJds. Avoid hands with dangling cards or rainbows.

Equity considerations

AA in Hold'em vs. random: 85/15. AAxx in PLO vs. coordinated rundown: 55/45. Equities run close — multiway pots are normal.

Key concepts

  • Wraps and draws — 13- to 17-out wraps are equity favorites against made hands
  • Blockers matter — Ace of suit on a flush board is a powerful bluff blocker
  • Position is even more critical — geometric pot growth makes OOP decisions expensive
  • Don't slow-play — too many draws complete on the turn

FAQ

Does this strategy guarantee profit?

No casino game can be beaten long-term except blackjack (with card counting), video poker (with full-pay tables), and certain forms of poker. Strategy reduces house edge but doesn't eliminate it for most games.
