Roulette Strategy: What Works (and What Doesn't)

No betting system can change roulette's house edge. The only "strategy" that matters is choosing the right variant. European single-zero gives you a 2.7% edge; American double-zero is 5.26%.

Variant choice is everything

European roulette (37 pockets, single 0): 2.70% house edge.

French roulette (same wheel as European but with the La Partage rule on even-money bets): 1.35% effective edge on those bets.

American roulette (38 pockets, 0 and 00): 5.26% — almost double the cost. Avoid.

Why "systems" don't work

Martingale, Fibonacci, D'Alembert, Labouchere — all classic betting systems. None change the underlying mathematical edge. They redistribute variance, not house edge. You'll feel different (smaller wins more often, occasional table-limit busts) but your long-run loss rate is identical.

The only "strategy"

Choose French roulette with La Partage. Bet on even-money outcomes (red/black, even/odd, high/low). Your effective house edge is 1.35% — among the best in the casino on a per-spin basis.

FAQ

Does this strategy guarantee profit?

No casino game can be beaten long-term except blackjack (with card counting), video poker (with full-pay tables), and certain forms of poker. Strategy reduces house edge but doesn't eliminate it for most games.

Where should I practice?

Use free-play / demo modes at any major regulated casino. Our casino reviews note which operators offer demo play.
