If the break halted Dortmund’s progress, it certainly came at the right time for Schalke. In their last 10, they have won just once, lost three times, and recorded six draws. That run has taken away the advantage they had and are now they are only just holding onto a top-six spot, with plenty of teams behind them looking to overtake.
Goal scoring has been a huge problem for the visitors recently. In their last seven games, they have been kept off the score sheet five times and scored just two goals. This is not good enough for a team looking to find its way into a European spot.
Schalke are 10 points behind Leverkusen in 5th, so it is unlikely they can climb higher. Holding onto 6th is their priority, but they have both Wolfsburg and Freiburg one point behind them, and Hoffenheim two behind so it won’t be easy.
